An egg-citing menu at Dubai’s Raju Omlet

Can’t start your day without eggs? Head to Raju Omlet, a tiny Indian restaurant in Al Karama, Dubai.

The interior is not much to go by – it is furnished with worn, turquoise wooden tables and rickety chairs and the walls are decorated with quirky posters of chickens and eggs – but the egg-heavy menu features delicious and affordable sandwiches served in a variety of ways.

I ordered the Power Omelette (Dh13), a spinach-based fritter tucked into a buttered bun. It was delicious, especially accompanied with coriander and mint chutney, which pulled the whole dish together. My partner had the classic egg and cheese roll (Dh14), described on the menu as “anda [Hindi for egg] paratha, spiced with our secret masala & stuffed with delicious cheddar cheese”. The bread was warm, crispy and not too greasy.

We washed everything down with small cups of karak chai (if you have read my blogs on My Year at The National, you'll know how much I love this beverage). At Raju Omlet, karak masquerades as "cutting chai" (about 100ml, Dh3.5), and it was divine.
