Turkish butcher and restaurateur Nusret Gökce, aka Salt Bae, seems to be spending most of his summer in Mykonos to help run his steakhouse on the Greek Island. Wouldn't you? And on Friday he helped a man propose to his girlfriend by hiding a diamond ring in a piece of meat (and then later, of course, garnishing the food with his trademark flourish). The video shows the chef pick up the engagement ring with his humongous knife, while the woman films the man-who-created-a-thousand-mems, completely oblivious to what is about to happen. It takes her a few seconds to realise what's going on, and her partner gets up, takes the ring and then gets down on one knee to propose. The video has already had more than 4.4 million views since it was posted less than 24 hours ago, such is the power of Salt Bae. While the woman says yes to a relieved man, a crowd forms and claps for the happy couple, with Ed Sheeran's Perfect playing in the background. One of the most notable things about the video is how Salt Bae himself can't help but beam and smile with happiness throughout: even he who-is-never-pictured-smiling can't stay poe-faced during a proposal.
