World's most expensive wedding dress unveiled by Egyptian couturier

The $15 million outfit concluded Hany El Behairy's 100th fashion show with a sparkling bang

Designer Hany El Behairy closed his 100th fashion show by unveiling the world's most expensive wedding dress, valued at a staggering $15 million (Dh55 million). The gown was modeled by rising Egyptian actress Mai Omar.

The Egyptian couturier's trademark is to end his annual show with extravagant wedding dresses that cost millions, presented by a famous actress or singer. This year, the Rayah El Madam star strutted down the runway wearing the dress that is heavily embellished with diamonds and gemstones.

The new mother turned heads in the sparkling high-low gown, which comes with a short front and long train, and floor-trailing wide veil scattered with star patterns.

It's not the first time the evening-wear designer has set a record with his wedding dresses. In 2017, the house of El Behairy created Egypt's most costly wedding dress, a $5 million gown worn by actress Yousra El Lozy. The designer has come to be known for his love of haute couture styling and luxurious fabrics.

This latest creation has catapulted El Behairy onto a global platform; the title of most costly wedding gown was previously attached to a $12 million dress covered in 150 carats of diamonds, designed in 2006 by dressmaker Renee Strauss and jeweller Martin Katz.
