Janelle Monae is known for her risk-taking fashion, often seen dominating award-season red carpets with daring and playful looks. But her latest style shoot, which features a look from Dubai designer Michael Cinco, takes things to the next level.
In a now-viral shoot for Variety, Monae sports a number of all-yellow outfits, including a geometric jacket and skirt combo from the Dubai-based atelier. Sharing the shot to his Instagram page, Cinco said, "Actress Janelle Monae @janellemonae in Variety Magazine ... in yellow Michael Cinco jacket/skirt... Thank you @antonio_esteban and @inessa_shak of StylePR. #MadeinDubai."
The shoot featured a number of powerful looks, including a striking cover image in which Monae wears a yellow latex dress from German designer Marina Hoermanseder.
Monae featured alongside Cate Blanchett and Patti LuPone in the publication’s yearly Power of Women campaign, celebrating women in Hollywood.
Speaking to Variety, the actress and singer said, "I look at myself as a magician. I try to make magic with whatever I touch. That requires hard work, that requires a certain amount of focus and attention to whatever it is that I'm doing.
“So if I’m doing a film, I wouldn’t try to write an album at the same time. I need to have the mental headspace to stay fully committed to whatever role I agreed to do.”
Monae, who has won eight Grammy awards, is currently starring in Amazon series Homecoming, alongside Julia Roberts.
