The 72nd edition of the annual Cannes Film Festival is officially in motion, after the opening ceremony was held in the French Riviera on Tuesday night. The red carpet affair kicked off the 12-day cinematic celebration, welcoming stars from both behind and in front of the camera, including directors, actresses, producers and actors. Celebrities such as Tilda Swinton, Julianne Moore, Elle Fanning and Selena Gomez (making her Cannes debut) were in attendance, as well as Lebanese director Nadine Labaki. Models such as Romee Strijid and Alessandra Ambrosio also made an appearance, as did stars such as<em> Star Wars </em>actor Adam Driver and legendary actor Bill Murray. <strong>Scroll through the gallery above to see the best-dressed stars from the 2019 Cannes Film Festival opening ceremony.</strong> The star-studded night also featured the world premiere for Jim Jarmusch's <em>The Dead Don't Die,</em> a zombie comedy with a cast including Gomez, Murray and Driver, alongside Chloe Sevigny and Steve Buscemi. The festival will show some highly anticipated films in its programme, which runs until May 25, including Quentin Tarantino's <em>Once Upon a Time ... in Hollywood.</em>
