1 House of Fraser Looking for some perfectly posh PJs for your little one? An adorably cute baby gift from the UAE’s own Babybling line? With 100,000 square feet of shopping spread over four floors, this upmarket department store is the mall’s anchor and well worth a wander. It also marks the first time the venerable British department store has expanded outside of Europe.
2 Hello Kitty Spa All things are pretty or pink at this mother-daughter spa, also a first for Abu Dhabi. Tucked away in a corner of House of Fraser, it’s a little girl’s dream come true. Kitty Queens and their Kitty Princesses can sign up for a variety of packages including the BFF Package for two, which includes getting your nails done, a blow dry, facial or make-up session, a cupcake and a drink, all for Dh510. Its mani-pedi, the most popular service, is priced at Dh160.
3 Liquid Nutrition’s fresh, raw almond milk Another Montreal company that launched 10 years ago and quickly expanded to 100 stores across Canada, the US and the Bahamas. Not only is Liquid Nutrition one of the rare UAE companies making almond milk for use in its smoothies and meal replacements (the Early Bird is Dh29), it also offers a full range of healthy-sounding stuff including wheatgrass shots (also a rarity, and for Dh12 if you dare).
4 Banana spring rolls at P.F. Chang’s This place packs them in at its Dubai locations for good reason. Expect a queue at the first Abu Dhabi location, too. But for something you really can’t get anywhere else, try the banana spring rolls (Dh35). They’re divine. Take a banana, roll it in cinnamon and sugar, then wrap it in a wonton and fry it. The spring rolls are delivered crisp and warm, with a scoop of ice cream in the middle, drizzled in caramel sauce and garnished with fresh berries.
5 MBCo’s classic steak sandwich It’s among the bestsellers at this charming restaurant, offering thick slices of beef, aubergine and cheddar cheese (Dh39). The Montreal Bread Company is a Canadian restaurant franchise that first popped up in the UAE in Dubai. Like most of the eateries in the WTC Mall, this one has a great outdoor patio.
6 Leghilà This Italian handbag company recently had to pull its B Bag, which looked (and sounded) very much like the coveted Hermès Birkin. Lawsuits were threatened and Leghilà has since taken it off the shelves, but there are still plenty of fun handbags on offer at the company’s first boutique in Abu Dhabi. Two reasons why these neoprene handbags (starting at Dh2,000) are special: they come in almost illegally bright colours and are, drum roll please, washable.
7 Koolkids This is not an average play area – it could well be the poshest in Abu Dhabi. It’s bright. It’s big. And there’s lots for kids to do, with an impressive arts and crafts room, a massive play structure for climbing and sliding, a soft play area for the little ones and an Xbox 360 room for bigger kids. Two other bonuses set Koolkids apart: there’s no sensory overload due to booming music and flashing lights and there’s a cafe inside for parents and caregivers. Dh30 per half hour.
8 Limited Edition Opticals
Every mall has them, which is no surprise, given how much the people of the UAE love and need their sunglasses. But this store, as its name states, features actual limited editions from the likes of the label A-Morir (think Lady Gaga, Rihanna, Katy Perry). If you’ve been contemplating adding a third or fourth pair to your collection, but want something other than aviators, this might be the shop for you. Price available on request.
9 Chocolate Bar The name says it all and since there are already six locations in Dubai and one in Al Ain, Abu Dhabi has long been overdue. Alison Nelson’s first Chocolate Bar in New York City’s West Village launched in 2002 and has since become an international franchise. One look at the frozen mini ice cream sandwiches circling a cup of warm milk chocolate sauce (Dh45) will have you planning a visit.
10 Nando’s With the opening of the first Nando’s in the capital, fans of the Afro-Portuguese chain’s Peri-Peri Flame Grilled Chicken will no longer have to travel to Dubai for their fix. Spread over 6,000 square feet and located next to the cinema, the 200-seater indoor and al fresco restaurant has charming interiors with large terracotta pots, paintings and a clay wall carved in a pattern reminiscent of the mud huts of South Africa. The intimate outdoor section is shaded with olive trees. The intimate outdoor section is shaded with olive trees.
How will Gen Alpha invest?
Mark Chahwan, co-founder and chief executive of robo-advisory firm Sarwa, forecasts that Generation Alpha (born between 2010 and 2024) will start investing in their teenage years and therefore benefit from compound interest.
“Technology and education should be the main drivers to make this happen, whether it’s investing in a few clicks or their schools/parents stepping up their personal finance education skills,” he adds.
Mr Chahwan says younger generations have a higher capacity to take on risk, but for some their appetite can be more cautious because they are investing for the first time. “Schools still do not teach personal finance and stock market investing, so a lot of the learning journey can feel daunting and intimidating,” he says.
He advises millennials to not always start with an aggressive portfolio even if they can afford to take risks. “We always advise to work your way up to your risk capacity, that way you experience volatility and get used to it. Given the higher risk capacity for the younger generations, stocks are a favourite,” says Mr Chahwan.
Highlighting the role technology has played in encouraging millennials and Gen Z to invest, he says: “They were often excluded, but with lower account minimums ... a customer with $1,000 [Dh3,672] in their account has their money working for them just as hard as the portfolio of a high get-worth individual.”

What is hepatitis?
Hepatitis is an inflammation of the liver, which can lead to fibrosis (scarring), cirrhosis or liver cancer.
There are 5 main hepatitis viruses, referred to as types A, B, C, D and E.
Hepatitis C is mostly transmitted through exposure to infective blood. This can occur through blood transfusions, contaminated injections during medical procedures, and through injecting drugs. Sexual transmission is also possible, but is much less common.
People infected with hepatitis C experience few or no symptoms, meaning they can live with the virus for years without being diagnosed. This delay in treatment can increase the risk of significant liver damage.
There are an estimated 170 million carriers of Hepatitis C around the world.
The virus causes approximately 399,000 fatalities each year worldwide, according to WHO.

Sinopharm vaccine explained
The Sinopharm vaccine was created using techniques that have been around for decades.
“This is an inactivated vaccine. Simply what it means is that the virus is taken, cultured and inactivated," said Dr Nawal Al Kaabi, chair of the UAE's National Covid-19 Clinical Management Committee.
"What is left is a skeleton of the virus so it looks like a virus, but it is not live."
This is then injected into the body.
"The body will recognise it and form antibodies but because it is inactive, we will need more than one dose. The body will not develop immunity with one dose," she said.
"You have to be exposed more than one time to what we call the antigen."
The vaccine should offer protection for at least months, but no one knows how long beyond that.
Dr Al Kaabi said early vaccine volunteers in China were given shots last spring and still have antibodies today.
“Since it is inactivated, it will not last forever," she said.

US PGA Championship in numbers
1 Joost Luiten produced a memorable hole in one at the par-three fourth in the first round.
2 To date, the only two players to win the PGA Championship after winning the week before are Rory McIlroy (2014 WGC-Bridgestone Invitational) and Tiger Woods (2007, WGC-Bridgestone Invitational). Hideki Matsuyama or Chris Stroud could have made it three.
3 Number of seasons without a major for McIlroy, who finished in a tie for 22nd.
4 Louis Oosthuizen has now finished second in all four of the game's major championships.
5 In the fifth hole of the final round, McIlroy holed his longest putt of the week - from 16ft 8in - for birdie.
6 For the sixth successive year, play was disrupted by bad weather with a delay of one hour and 43 minutes on Friday.
7 Seven under par (64) was the best round of the week, shot by Matsuyama and Francesco Molinari on Day 2.
8 Number of shots taken by Jason Day on the 18th hole in round three after a risky recovery shot backfired.
9 Jon Rahm's age in months the last time Phil Mickelson missed the cut in the US PGA, in 1995.
10 Jimmy Walker's opening round as defending champion was a 10-over-par 81.
11 The par-four 11th coincidentally ranked as the 11th hardest hole overall with a scoring average of 4.192.
12 Paul Casey was a combined 12 under par for his first round in this year's majors.
13 The average world ranking of the last 13 PGA winners before this week was 25. Kevin Kisner began the week ranked 25th.
14 The world ranking of Justin Thomas before his victory.
15 Of the top 15 players after 54 holes, only Oosthuizen had previously won a major.
16 The par-four 16th marks the start of Quail Hollow's so-called "Green Mile" of finishing holes, some of the toughest in golf.
17 The first round scoring average of the last 17 major champions was 67.2. Kisner and Thorbjorn Olesen shot 67 on day one at Quail Hollow.
18 For the first time in 18 majors, the eventual winner was over par after round one (Thomas shot 73).
