The coveted Givenchy Antigona bag was displayed in shades of black, beige and oxblood at last Thursday’s opening of the French fashion label’s new flagship boutique in Dubai’s Mall of the Emirates.

While the Antigona bag may be emblematic of Givenchy, the fashion house is known for a great deal more than handbags. Since Riccardo Tisci's appointment of artistic director in 2005, the designer has injected a new dark romanticism to the label's aesthetic — something that has quickly become synonymous with the brand. Before Tisci's appointment, Givenchy womenswear had been headed by a host of seasoned fashion designers, including John Galliano, Alexander Mcqueen and Julien Macdonald.

The new Dubai boutique houses menswear and womenswear, along with footwear, handbags and accessories. Pieces from the spring/summer 2017 collection were on display at the launch event, including ready-to-wear, which features a striking red and black colour palette, in both sensual, ruffled textures and dark, edgy leathers. The boutique also offers some of the more iconic designs from past seasons, such as the memorable Bambi and gorilla prints.

The new Givenchy flagship store is located on Level 2 of Mall of the Emirates.
