Wellbeing Laundry sets up in Mussaffah to service UAE hospitals

A Dh27 million laundry in Musaffah will cater to some of the largest hospitals in the UAE.

The 15,000-square-foot Wellbeing Laundry, which opens on Thursday, has signed contracts with seven hospitals – including the NMC Specialty Hospital in Abu Dhabi – to clean their linen and garments.

The laundry will also cater to hospitals in Dubai, Al Ain and Sharjah. It is in talks for a deal with University Hospital Sharjah.

The facility is part of the expansion of Bubble Dream Laundry, which caters to the hospitality sector.

Set up last year, Bubble Dream Laundry serves 25 hotels in Abu Dhabi and Dubai.

Surging demand for healthcare services across the region is attracting massive investment to build hospitals and clinics to bridge the gap between demand and supply.

Despite the addition of hundreds of new hospital beds in the country, demand remains for more. Hospital groups such as NMC Healthcare and Al Noor Hospitals Group have been active in acquiring medical centres and dental clinics.

“No other laundry in Abu Dhabi or Dubai has the facilities that Wellbeing Laundry has to offer,” said Jorge Damasceno, Bubble Dream Laundry’s general manager.

“With the growing investment from the private and public sector [in the healthcare industry], there is a demand for such services.”

To eliminate contamination, the linen would be sorted at source and 95 per cent of the water used would be recycled.

The rest would be treated before it is released into the sewage system.

Wellbeing Laundry’s current capacity of 25 tonnes a day is expected to be fully optimised in two years.

It can be expanded by between 10 and 12 tonnes a day with an investment of about Dh8m. The laundry will employ 100 people to pick up and deliver the hospital linen and garments.
