Warid stake not for sale

Warid Telecom, the Pakistani telecommunications operator owned by the Abu Dhabi Group, has denied that it is in talks to sell a stake in the company to rival firms. "Warid Telecom Pakistan is not being sold off [but] rather is on course with its expansion plans," said Bashir Tahir, the chief executive of the Abu Dhabi Group, in a statement. On Wednesday, The National reported that the Abu Dhabi Group, an investment company led by members of the Royal Family, is in talks with several groups to offload a sizeable shareholding along with management control in Warid Telecom in a deal that would create the largest mobile phone operator in the country.
