AJMAN // A street view-style map of Ajman will soon be launched online allowing tourists and residents to get a close up view of the emirate.
Visitors to the mapping website here.com will be able to see images of neighbourhoods, roads and places of interest such as government buildings, malls and restaurants in and around Ajman.
The information shown on the website will be refreshed periodically by the Ajman Municipality and Planning Department to ensure the most update images are available and can be viewed through 360 degrees.
Eng Mohammed Al Muhairi, the chief of the municipality’s technical affairs sector, said the street map project offers panoramic photography of the emirate.
He added that around 80 per cent of the project has been completed.
Mr Al Muhairi said the project will be fully completed by August and will display all government and commercial buildings. In addition, the map’s app will be available free of charge.
In May, Google began capturing street-level images of Sharjah’s roads, landmarks and neighbourhoods in partnership with the Sharjah Urban Planning Council.
Google previously launched special collections for the Burj Khalifa, the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque and most recently the desert of Liwa, which was captured using a Trekker device atop a camel.
Dubai also hosts Google's Middle East headquarters. Launched in May 2007, the Street View feature is available in more than 3000 cities across 63 countries.
