Manchester City to display trophies in Abu Dhabi

ABU DHABI // Manchester City’s Barclay’s Premier League trophy and the Capital One cup will be on display at a Family Fanzone for their UAE supporters next Sunday.

The club is flying over the silverware for a live screening of the match against Manchester United at Abu Dhabi’s Zayed Sports City.

“Fans all over the world will be watching this game and it is always hugely important to both sets of fans,” said Vincent Kompany, Manchester City’s captain.

“Obviously we can all still remember winning both of those trophies last season and it was an amazing feeling for me personally to lift them both.

“It’s fantastic that City fans in Abu Dhabi are getting the chance to see them in real life as they support the team in the game against United.”

Fans of all ages can watch the game on the big screen with refreshments organised by the club along with the chance to try Etihad Airways’ F1 car simulator. At half-time a competition will be held, with the winner travelling to the UK for a City game later this season.

City have been putting on Fanzones in Abu Dhabi for several years. There were more than 400 people at Zayed Sports City for the final game of last season when the team won the league.

“We have seen both the Fanzone events and City Football School in Abu Dhabi go from strength to strength over the years and taking the trophies there is a brilliant way to say thanks,” said former City star Patrick Vieira, who now runs the club’s Elite Development Squad and is a regular visitor to Abu Dhabi.

The event starts at 4.30pm with kick-off to the match at 5.30pm. Entry is free, with pre-event registration required by emailing skyblue@mcfc.co.uk
