Google Street View now available for Sharjah, Ajman

Internet users can now browse the emirates of Sharjah and Ajman virtually, roaming online through its streets.

The Sharjah Urban Planning Council has announced that Google has completed the capturing of images throughout the emirate. This will allow users to explore Sharjah through high-resolution, 360-degree panoramic imagery.

This makes Sharjah the second city in the Arab world to have its streets available on Google Street View.

“We are very pleased with this achievement,” said Sheikh Khalid bin Sultan Al Qasimi, chairman of the council. “It will allow residents of and visitors to the emirate from all over the world an avenue to virtually roam about the diverse, spectacular landscape and extraordinary monuments in Sharjah.”

Google Street View can enhance the daily life of users, by enabling them to browse locations such as restaurants and hotels. The new service is also useful for field research and studies.

Joyce Baz, communications manager at Google in the Middle East and North Africa, said: “Google Street View will allow millions of people from around the world to discover the emirates in a new way – to see and experience useful and beautiful 360-degree imagery of Sharjah and Ajman.”
