ABU DHABI // flydubai, the Government-owned budget carrier, has chosen Damascus and Alexandra as its third and fourth destinations and will launch flights to the cities on June 8 and June 9 respectively. Promotional one-way fares start at Dh350 (US$95), it said. The budget airline start-up makes its inaugural flights to Beirut and Amman from June 1, in time for the summer holiday season. Established a year ago by the Dubai government with a start up capital of almost US$68.2 million (Dh250m), the airline's operations team has been finalising routes within four and a half hours from the UAE, taking in the Indian subcontinent, north and east Africa, south-east Europe and the Middle East. The airline has worked out that more than two billion people live less than a five-hour flight away from Dubai and is confident of success.
