The 2016 smartphone sales rankings are in, and Apple has jumped into the top spot worldwide by a tenth of a per cent– but only for the fourth quarter, according to Gartner.
Samsung, the maker of the Galaxy and Note series, held off its rival for the year as a whole. Overall, total smartphone sales totalled almost 1.5 billion, up 5 per cent from the previous year.
Chinese brands grabbed the next three slots, with Oppo more than doubling its market share the the year as a whole, thanks to strong sales in Chinese and Indian markets.
