Forget bling for the body. These days, companies are adorning such
devices as mobile phones, portable music players and tablets with all
sorts of shiny coatings.
Last week, Camael, which specialises in bespoke diamond customisation,
announced a new line of luxury technology. Its collection includes a
solid gold iPad for £90,000 (Dh537,336), an iPhone 4 with four ounces of
gold and set with over 1,000 diamonds for £16,950, as well as a diamond
encrusted iPad. Total damage for that glimmering tablet? £750,000.
But who wants such a liability on their hands, considering the number of
devices that get left behind in cabs, airports and elsewhere? Turns out
the concern may be unwarranted for those who can afford such glimmering
gadgets, as a rep for Camael claims that the company has already
received enquiries from customers who want to customise their iPad.
Camael certainly isn't the only company trying to cater to the
super-affluent with these kinds of offerings. Amosu sells both an iPhone
and BlackBerry with up to 1,400 diamonds secured to the case £15,000 to £16,000), while Stuart Hughes is hawking a gold iPad which
features 53 sparkling gems set specifically into the Apple logo £129,995).
