A unit of Spinneys will invest Dh175 million in a state-of-the-art headquarters in Dubai, the company that has 53 stores across the UAE said on Wednesday.
“The investment in our new headquarters sends a very clear message that the future of retail is bright in the UAE and Spinneys will be at the forefront of this development," said Matthew Frost, the incoming chief executive, who takes the helm of Spinneys Dubai in January. Michael Wright continues as the chief executive of Spinneys Group.
"Our appetite for growth is unparalleled and as we approach 2020, this will only increase as we look to expand our footprint across the region and beyond with new stores and a focus on digital innovation."
The grocer expects to see 40 per cent growth by 2020, through expansion and digital product development, with plans to increase its footprint regionally to 79 stores from 61. The company plans to bring an online grocery service to the market as part of its expansion plan. New initiatives will also include a customer loyalty scheme, Spinneys & ME, which is due to be rolled in the first quarter of 2018.

The new Spinneys Dubai HQ will be in Meydan with key retail brands managed from the site, the company said. The new site will also feature a new flagship store and an ultra-modern, on-site cookery school to offer culinary training and development. With construction already under way, the building is expected to be operational by April 2019.
The company's expansion regionally is set to create 2,000 jobs. The grocer started operating in the UAE in 1962.
