Book retailers in the UAE say sales have been hampered by thrifty consumers who are increasingly turning to cheaper e-books to sate their appetites for literature. Book sales have bounced back from last year's slump but the growing popularity of e-book readers such as Amazon's Kindle has cut into demand for printed editions, said Jeremy Brinton, the chief executive of the Magrudy's.
