I own a business, which is located in a RAK free zone, and I also live in the same emirate. I sponsor my wife and my family. My wife is now looking at taking a job but it is located in Dubai. I would like to know if she is allowed to do so as she has a RAK residence visa that states "housewife not allowed to work". Is she allowed to take up a job in the UAE? How does it work if she wants to work in a different emirate? HS, RAK
Despite the wording on the spouse’s visa, a woman may legally take up employment provided her husband provides her with a no objection certificate; essentially a letter, addressed to the future employer. This must simply say that he has no objection to her taking up employment and then she is essentially on equal footing with anyone who does not have the same restriction written in their passport. The employer must still apply for a government labour card. There is no legal issue with someone on a RAK visa working in Dubai, or any other emirate.
