The United States engineering company Parsons has been appointed to design and manage construction of Mag Property Development’s Dh4 billion District 7 project in Dubai.
District 7 is a new, mixed-use community that Mag Property Development is planning within Meydan City in Dubai. It is to contain 35 residential buildings, a clubhouse, a retail zone, offices and green spaces.
Parsons said that its scope includes the design of residential buildings, town houses, villas, a sales centre and several utility buildings, as well as the design of the master plan, infrastructure and landscaping for the site.
Mag Property Development is the real estate arm of Mag Group – a series of property and trading businesses owned by the Syrian entrepreneur Moafaq Al Gaddah. The group was set up in 1978 and employs around 2,000 staff.
It has developed several residential towers in Dubai Marina, Jumeirah Lakes Towers and Jumeirah Village Circle, the Emirates Financial Towers buildings in Dubai International Financial Centre and a warehouse complex in Sharjah. It is also on site at Mag 5 Boulevard – a project with more than 1,000 apartments within 13 low-rise apartment blocks at Dubai South.
“This is our first buildings contract with MAG Property Development and we are excited to work with them.
“We look forward to bringing our buildings and mixed-use projects expertise to this development,” said Gary Adams, the president of Parsons’ Middle East and Africa region.
Parsons employs more than 4,200 people in the Middle East and more than 13,000 worldwide.
The employee-owned company recently reported a 6 per cent decline in revenue for 2016 to US$3.04bn.

Anxiety and work stress major factors
Anxiety, work stress and social isolation are all factors in the recogised rise in mental health problems.
A study UAE Ministry of Health researchers published in the summer also cited struggles with weight and illnesses as major contributors.
Its authors analysed a dozen separate UAE studies between 2007 and 2017. Prevalence was often higher in university students, women and in people on low incomes.
One showed 28 per cent of female students at a Dubai university reported symptoms linked to depression. Another in Al Ain found 22.2 per cent of students had depressive symptoms - five times the global average.
It said the country has made strides to address mental health problems but said: “Our review highlights the overall prevalence of depressive symptoms and depression, which may long have been overlooked."
Prof Samir Al Adawi, of the department of behavioural medicine at Sultan Qaboos University in Oman, who was not involved in the study but is a recognised expert in the Gulf, said how mental health is discussed varies significantly between cultures and nationalities.
“The problem we have in the Gulf is the cross-cultural differences and how people articulate emotional distress," said Prof Al Adawi.
“Someone will say that I have physical complaints rather than emotional complaints. This is the major problem with any discussion around depression."
