Humans are a nosy lot. We all like to know what everyone else is interested in - what places they are visiting and what products they are buying into. If the crowd likes something, the rest of us invariably follow. And this is no different when it comes to money matters.
The price comparison website Souqalmal.com has released its latest ranking of the UAE's most popular banking products. And it's interesting to note that SimplyLife - a consumer personal finance brand launched only last year by Abu Dhabi Commercial Bank - has topped the charts in two categories: credit cards and car loans.
The ranking - released bi-annually by Souqalmal.com - lists the most clicked on products of the last six months. In this case it applies to the last quarter of 2014 and the first quarter of this year.
So just a year after launching, SimplyLife is already attracting considerable interest from consumers. The products that won people over were the brand’s credit card, available to those earning over Dh8,000 at a rate of 3.09 per cent and its car loan, again available to those earning over Dh8,000 at a reducing rate of 5.99 per cent.
Another new entrant to the list, the fifth Souqalmal.com has released, was Amex, with two of its products making the top five credit cards. And of the 12 financial institutions that feature in the ranking overall, ADIB had four placements over a possible 20.
In the loans category, Emirates NBD led with its product for expats, available to salary earners of Dh10,000 and above at a reducing rate of 4.99 per cent. And ADIB was the winner in the Home Finance category thanks to its home loan for expats earning Dh15,000 and above at a reducing rate of 2.99 per cent.
But it’s important to note the ranking is just a reflection of the products the website’s users are clicking on. Just because everyone is looking at something does not mean they are signing up for it. Consumers should still make sure they do their homework before following the crowd.
