KUWAIT// The Kuwait Fund for Arab Economic Development says it has signed a loan agreement with Sudan to help finance the construction of the Marouri Dam, the state news agency Kuna reports. According to the fund, it will provide Sudan with Kuwaiti dinars 15 million (Dh191m) for the finance of project, which would meet the growing electricity demand and reduce the cost of power production. The agreement was signed by Dr Awadh Ahmad, the economic minister of Sudan, and the fund's director general Abelwahab al Badr.
Sudan said earlier this month that it plans to spend at least $600m to build three new dams and refurbish another, all in the southern region of the country. Kuna
