India’s department of biotechnology has highlighted that the country can develop segments in the industry such as new forms of vaccines, renewable energy from biological sources, biosimilar manufacturing and plant hybrids.
The association of biotechnology-led enterprises says the sector will help to transform India’s economy through its solutions in food security, fuel security and health care.
The department of biotechnology has stated that “frontier” areas such as stem cells and synthetic biology could play an increasingly important role in this emerging sector, adding that the combined revenues of the biotechnology and healthcare sectors could reach US$100 billion by 2025.
