The UAE Armed Forces announced Dh2.53 billion worth of orders on day four of the expo, with Dh2.3bn alone going to a maintenance, repair and overhaul deal signed with Mubadala’s Ammroc.

The deals were announced by Obaid Al Ketbi, the chairman of the Idex organising committee, who told The National that “many international companies are interested in our defence products in Idex and have contacted our national companies”. He added: “This shows the success of the military industry.”

Other deals included a Dh24 million contract between the UAE Armed Forces and Abu Dhabi Autonomous Systems Investments (Adasi) to provide spare parts for unmanned vehicles and a Dh18m deal with Thales Advanced Solutions for spare parts for signalling devices.

Mr Al Ketbi also confirmed remarks made by Ukrainian president Petro Poroshenko on Tuesday on the interest of his country in UAE defence products.

“Actually, there is sort of cooperation with both countries. We have a lot of interest in their products and they have also some interest in some of the things that we produce in the UAE,” said Mr Al Ketbi.
