Some HSBC customers have received text messages asking them to turn up at a branch with their passport and residence visa.
The SMS explains the process is part of the bank's "ongoing evaluation and update of customer records".
The message asks the customer to visit their nearest branch with their original passport and residence visa by a certain date.
"As part of our ongoing evaluation of customer records, we contact customers via various methods of communication to update their personal information with HSBC around the MENA region and globally," a HSBC spokeswoman said today.
HSBC's move follows similar requests by mobile phone companies after the Telecommunications Regulatory Authority's (TRA) "My Number, My Identity" campaign launched in July, requiring all etisalat and du mobile customers to be re-registered.
