Known as a hopping-off point for Cape Point, the confluence of Indian and Atlantic Oceans, Cape Town in itself has a diversity in attractions much like its population. Table Mountain to its north and the seas to the south, make the town one of the most popular tourist destinations in South Africa.

Airlines that connect with Cape Town: Qatar Airways and Emirates Airline connect Abu Dhabi and Dubai to Cape Town via Johannesburg.

Airport: Cape Town International Airport (Iata code: CPT) handles both domestic and international flights. It first opened its doors in 1954, but has undergone several renovations, especially in the run-up to the 2010 Fifa World Cup. The airport has a domestic and an international terminal.

Airport hotel: Road Lodge Cape Town International Airport has rooms from 505 rand. It is situated within the airport precinct.

Downtown hotel: Taj Cape Town is located at the entrance of St George's Mall and offers views of the Table Mountain. Weekend rates start from 1,280 rand. It is less than 1 kilometre from the Cape Town International Convention Centre (CTICC).

Cost of cab from airport to city centre: The airport is about 20km from the city centre and a cab ride can cost up to 200 rands, according to safarinow.com.

Conference centre: The CTICC opened in 2003, and is currently undergoing an expansion. It can host conventions as well as music events. It has 11,399 square metres of exhibition space, an auditorium with a capacity of more than 1,500, and a ballroom of 2,000 square metres. The precinct also has the Westin Grand Hotel Cape Town.

A power restaurant: La Colombe Restaurant in the city centre has been rated highly for its atmosphere and food. Mains start at 130 rands. The Linefish "du jour" with Kingklip fillet in olive oil, prawn beignet, broccoli purée and grapefruit gel comes at 175 rand.
