Dubai World Trade Centre made a free zone

Dubai World Trade Centre has been established as a free zone after a new law was issued by Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid, Vice President of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, Wam reported.

The new law aims to boost Dubai’s position as a global trade centre and hub for regional and international exhibitions and conferences in addition to attracting local and international investments and hosting commercial and trade establishments.

A decree was issued appointing Minister of Finance Sheikh Hamdan bin Rashid as chairman of Dubai World Trade Centre Authority (DWTCA), while Helal Saeed Al Marri, the director general of Dubai Department of Tourism and Commerce Marketing, was appointed director general of the DWTCA.

DWTCA’s board of directors include Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum as vice chairman, Butti Saeed Al Kindi as second vice chairman, plus Ziad Abdulla Galadari, Abdullah Mohammed Rafee, Khalifa Saeed Al Zaffin, Saud Ibrahim Obaidallah and Abdulrahman Mohammed Rashid Al Sharid.

DWTC said last month it would add 166,800 square feet of exhibition space taking its indoor capacity to more than 1.31 million square feet by the first quarter of next year.

In 2013, DWTC welcomed 2.2 million trade visitors – a 20 per cent year-on-year increase.
