Dubai Aiports reported a near 30 per cent jump in traffic in July, driven by interest in destinations across Eastern Europe.
It puts the airport on track for another year of record growth.
About 6.68 million travellers passed through Dubai International during July, helped by flydubai’s new services to Slovakia, Bosnia, Bulgaria and Croatia.
Dubai International was reduced to one runway a year ago as the airport undertook a refurbishment programme, which reduced passenger numbers.
The current rate of growth suggests the airport will surpass last year’s record number of visitors with the current projection for 79 million passengers eclipsing last year’s record 70.47 million.
During the first seven months of this year, DXB welcomed 44,981,967 passengers, compared to 39,831,861 passengers during the same period last year, an increase of 12.9 per cent.
“Over 6 million passengers per month has become the norm at DXB, and we expect that to continue for the remainder of the year,” said Paul Griffiths, chief executive of Dubai Airports. “Despite the high volumes, we have maintained service levels by implementing detailed operational plans, boosting staff levels and intensifying communication efforts with our business partners and customers.”

Travellers from Russia and the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) countries increased by 41.4 per cent compared to last July. There was an even split across all terminals between passengers connecting through Dubai and those arriving and departing.
In terms of total passenger numbers, the GCC outperformed the rest of the regions followed by the Indian subcontinent and Western Europe.
