Dana Gas makes oil find in Egypt

Dana Gas has discovered more oil in southern Egypt with its most prolific well in the region to date. The latest well drilled at the Komombo concession was notable for being the first to bring oil to the surface under natural pressure from the reservoir, instead of having to be pumped, the Sharjah company said. The oil well, Al Baraka-4, opens "a new era of petroleum exploration in Southern Egypt", said Dr Hany el Sharkawi, the president of Dana's operating unit in Egypt. "The fact that oil has flowed naturally to the surface from a new layer with better reservoir quality demonstrates that the Komombo basin is more prolific than originally thought."

That means the discovery has improved the outlook for future oil finds in the region. "Dana Gas will proceed with development of the Al Baraka oilfield and will continue with its exploration programme to explore the entire Komombo concession," said Ahmed al Arbeed, the chief executive of the company. With its 2007 discovery of the Al Baraka field, Dana was the first company to strike oil in southern Egypt. Its latest well has found a new pool in the Six Hills "E" reservoir, which is part of the oilfield.
