Abu Dhabi bidding hall processes Dh27bn worth of tenders in its first year

More than Dh27 billion worth of tenders were processed by the new bidding hall facility of Abu Dhabi Department of Finance in its first year of operations.

The “Al Maqtaa bidding hall”, located in the department’s headquarters, processed about 69 tenders for capital and operational projects, each worth in excess of Dh100 million, in the 12 months up to the end of May, the finance department said yesterday.

The tenders were launched by 12 government entities, including Abu Dhabi’s Department of Transport, the Urban Planning Council, Al Ain City Municipality and Emirates Nuclear Energy Corporation.

Details of the individual tenders were not provided.

The bidding hall is intended to promote competitiveness and transparency for project tenders in excess of Dh100m issued by government entities.

The hall was launched officially last month by Ahmed Al Mazrouei, the secretary general of the Abu Dhabi Executive Council.

“By developing the bidding hall’s operations, we are striving to enhance coordination between all government entities, to attract more foreign investment and strengthen the competitiveness of the Emirate’s economy,” said Salah Mohamed Al Weswasi, the Department of Finance’s executive director of financial policies and systems sector.

Mr Al Weswasi noted that the bidding hall formed part of the department’s commitment to implement the directives of the Abu Dhabi Government, support the Abu Dhabi 2030 vision and adopt best corporate governance practices through the development of an open, efficient and effective business environment.
