World music great Yanni to perform in Sharjah

Yanni has announced an outdoor Sharjah show in November.

The renowned Greek world music composer will take the stage at Al Majaz Amphitheater on November 6.

The performance is part of a tour promoting his latest album Inspirato.

Released last year, the album is the 17th in Yanni’s 30-year career, and finds him moving away from his trademark new-age sounds towards more classical musical territory with guest vocals provided by opera luminaries Plácido Domingo, Renée Fleming and Katherine Jenkins.

A regular performer in the Gulf, the 60-year-old is renowned for shows in which he usually leads an large orchestra from his centre-stage piano. Another aspect of his live gigs is cutting-edge light and sound.

"That is the magic of live performances, they are live and never the same. I still get "butterflies" or anxious before every single show," said the musician. "When we perform for an audience, we get so much love from the audience that makes all of us on the stage feel so motivated and rewarded for our effort and this love and relationship with the audience is what keeps us going with such enthusiasm."
