The UAE takes a starring role in the new music video from upcoming Bollywood singer Tripet Garielle. Breezy summer-singed pop track Saathiya is accompanied by a sheeny promo clip, loaded with copious iconic DXB landmarks including the Burj Al Arab, Palm Jumeirah, Atlantis and the Dubai Marina skyline. However mixed in with the familiar glitz-and-bling Dubai clichés — Garielle spends much of the video idling on a super yacht — are some rewarding remote adventures, including several stunning scenes shot around Ras Al Khaimah’s Jabal Jais mountain. The Hindi-language track was recorded in Dubai by renowned producer Atif Ali, who has crafted hits for superstars including Rahat Fateh Ali Khan and Atif Aslam. “I’m always a little bit nervous when I go into the studio with Atif,” says Garielle, “even though I’ve recorded with him so many times, it always feels like my first day at school.” Born and raised in the UK, Garielle has been making strides into the Bollywood market since the release of her 2014 debut single Palkaan, produced by Jawad Hyder, aka JKD. Tripet’s big break came two years ago when she began working with Ali, and has since visited Dubai several times to record at the producer’s JLT studio. The pair's first release was last year's breakout hit Woh Pal, a romantic ballad which will be the title track of a forthcoming album. This was followed by the upbeat, urban-flavoured Aa Vee Jaa, with Saathiya now Garielle's third release with Ali at the helm. “I was put in touch with Atif by a mutual friend, so I gave him a call on Skype and in the very first ten seconds I said ‘I want you to compose a song for me’,” remembers Garielle. “He got out his guitar and said ‘sing this’, something he made up on the spot, and I knew right away I wanted to work with him. That melody was a connection. “I’m learning so much from Atif. When you go to the studio it’s an entirely different would — you can forget everything you learned on the outside.” Find out more at tripetgarielle.com. rgarratt@thenational.ae
