Esther Eden has a clear idea of how she would like things to go backstage at Beats on the Beach, where she will performs on Friday, November 25, before headline slots from Sean Paul and The 5.
"I've already thought about this," says Eden, who will celebrate her 19th birthday a day after the concert. "So, Sean Paul collaborated on one song with Sia [Cheap Thrills]. I was hoping we can do this song together, and I can sing Sia's part."
Really? That night? Full marks for ambition.
“I’m hoping. I haven’t asked – but so far I’ve always had my dreams come true,” says the teenager, who was born in India and lived in the UAE.
Indeed she has. Esther Eden is, after all, the overnight star who in 2014 was plucked from a Dubai high school by UK pop star Jessie J to perform alongside her in front of a crowd of 10,000 ar RedFestDXB. Soon after, she was signed by Universal music, and returned to RedFest this year to perform in her own right. After all this, one cannot blame Eden for dreaming big.
The latest milestone in a whirlwind few years was the release of her debut album, Solitaire, on Friday – and Beats on the Beach will be the first time she performs much of the material live.
Largely recorded at Abu Dhabi's White Cube studio, the release builds on the success of singles Is This Love and Phoenix, and follows a recent collaboration with UK DJ Shaun Warner Here We Go.
“I’m so excited to be performing these songs for the first time,” says Eden.
“I try to be honest in my music. I’ve written these songs based on my personal experiences, and hopefully people can relate to them. In a region such as the UAE, music is still not done a lot, so all I hope is that this album gets out there and people enjoy it.
“I’ve just started, but my long-term goal is to go on a world tour. I like making people happy, and if I can carry on doing that with my music, that’s the best thing.”
