On Christmas Eve, Bollywood celebrities such as Amitabh Bachchan, Akshay Kumar and Lara Dutta took to Twitter to wish "love and peace" to their friends and fans.

"Merry Christmas and a very happy New year, to all my Ef and to those that consider becoming the Ef. love happiness peace and tranquillity in all your lives. remain well, healthy and take good care," Bachchan wrote on his blog.

"I had just one request, don't be extravagant, be giving, and don't waste food ... remember it's all about the joy of giving this festive season. Eat, drink, give and make merry. Have a Merry Christmas!," Akshay said.

For Lara Dutta and Shilpa Shetty, who are expecting their first child, it is sure to be a special Christmas. "This time it won't be a White Christmas, but it's still time to be merry. ho ho ho a very merry Christmas to all of you my tweetos. Enjoy," Shetty tweeted.

"Christmas officially starting today! Midnight mass ... presents wrapped and ready to go under the tree, big family lunch tomorrow! Yeah!!," Dutta said.

The actor Anupam Kher posted a picture of himself wearing a Santa hat and standing in front of a Christmas tree. "OMG. The way you people are praising my Santa DP, I am petrified of going to my original face. But thanks anyway," Kher said.

The actor-director Farhan Akhtar has double reasons to celebrate: his film Don 2, which was released internationally on Friday and is currently playing in UAE cinemas, is doing well at the box office. "Thanks for the incredible feedback on the film. We're glad to have entertained you ... Do keep it coming ... Merry Christmas," Akhtar tweeted.

Baz Luhrmann requires stitches after on-set incident

The director Baz Luhrmann (Strictly Ballroom, Moulin Rouge and Australia) required three stitches to his head on Friday after bumping into a camera crane on the set of his latest movie, The Great Gatsby, based on the classic novel by F Scott Fitzgerald.

His injury forced an early end to the Sydney filming, reported the Sydney Morning Herald. The movie features an international cast, including Leonardo DiCaprio, Tobey Maguire and Carey Mulligan.

A co-producer, Anton Monsted, said: "We were on quite a cramped set and he was ducking under the crane. He struck his head on the weights on the end of the camera crane. He split open his head and we had to get the doctor."

Monsted said the producers decided to stop filming and allow the cast and crew to get home for Christmas a day earlier than planned.

They will return for additional shots in January.

The adaptation of Fitzgerald's novel, set in New York in the 1920s, has been shot at Fox Studios and locations around Sydney, including the International College of Management, formerly St Patrick's College, at Manly, for 83 days.

Controversial German operetta singer dies

Johannes Heesters, a controversial operetta singer who became famous in Nazi Germany and who was considered one of the world's oldest performing artists, died on Saturday, according to reports by Agence France-Presse. He was 108.

A favourite of Hitler, Heesters was born in the Netherlands in 1903 and made his name performing in Nazi Germany. He died in a clinic in the town of Starnberg in Bavaria where he lived, said his agency, Ross.

Heesters played in numerous films and theatre plays, including performing the main role in The Merry Widow, an operetta by Franz Lehár, some 1,600 times.

Heesters' popularity with the Nazis haunted him throughout his life, with protests accompanying his 2008 concert in the Netherlands, his first in decades in his home country.

During his previous concert in the Netherlands in 1963 the audience chased him off by giving him a Hitlerian salute when he appeared on stage.

Madonna fan arrested for leaking a song

A self confessed "big Madonna fan" was arrested in Zaragoza, Spain, after leaking a track from the pop-diva's much-anticipated 12th album.

The Spanish hacker allegedly stole a demo of the William Orbit-produced lead single Gimme All Your Luvin before posting it online in November.

The 31-year-old, whom the police revealed only by his initials JMR, was tracked down as a result of "operation Madonna leaks", an investigation launched after the leak was exposed.

Madonna was reportedly furious at news of the leak, especially since the song has since been changed to add cameo appearances by MIA and Nicki Minaj.

With no release date and no title announced, the album is rumoured to be out in the spring, to coincide with a new world tour.
