Today in entertainment: Madhuri Dixit to join Madame Tussauds' wax cast

The Bollywood actress Madhuri Dixit, who returned to India from the US last year to make a comeback in the Mumbai entertainment industry, has become the sixth Indian star to be immortalised in the Madame Tussauds wax museum in London.

"Madame Tussauds made the announcement, and I am confirming it. Will be in London in March to introduce my likeness. Thanks for all your support," the 44-year-old tweeted this weekend.

The actress, who was Bollywood's number one female star until she got married in 1999, joins a select band of Bollywood stars whose statues adorned the museum: Amitabh Bachchan, Shah Rukh Khan, Hritik Roshan, Salman Khan and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan.

"To ensure total authenticity, Madhuri will be closely involved in the creation process, collaborating with our team and even donating a Manish Malhotra sari for her figure to wear," the museum said in a statement.

A microbiologist and trained Kathak dancer, Dixit delivered a blockbuster in N Chandra's Tezaab in 1988. Her dance number Ek Do Teen became a national craze.

After a brief hiatus, during which she became a mother, she performed in Rajkumar Santoshi's Pukar (2000) and Sanjay Leela Bhansali's Devdas (2001).

Last October, Dixit, who lived in the US raising two sons, decided to return to her native Mumbai, along with her family.

She has become a brand ambassador for a new entertainment channel, Life OK, and is said to be considering a fully fledged return to acting soon.

Fleetwood Mac's Bob Weston found dead

The former Fleetwood Mac guitarist Bob Weston has died at the age of 64 in north London. He was found dead at his home by police last week after friends became concerned that they had not heard from him for several days, reported Reuters.

"Cause of death has been attributed to a gastrointestinal haemorrhage," said a post on Weston's website.

Weston joined Fleetwood Mac in 1972 as a replacement for Danny Kirwan. He went on to release several solo albums and played with musicians including Long John Baldry and Murray Head.

Dia Mirza denies incident with Mumbai customs

Dia Mirza has denied reports that she was stopped by customs officials at Mumbai International Airport and fined for failing to declare goods worth Rs200,000 (Dh14,000), including cosmetics and bags.

Earlier reports claimed that the Bollywood actress had been fined Rs100,000 on Saturday when undeclared goods were allegedly found on her after she returned from Bangkok at 2am.

However, the Love Breakups Zindagi star denied the incident on Twitter, posting: "Please be informed that I was not questioned by customs for undeclared jewellery."

Last year, the Bollywood stars Bipasha Basu and Minissha Lamba were stopped by customs for failing to declare dutiable goods.

David Hockney condemns Hirst methods

The British artist David Hockney has criticised the methods of Damien Hirst, who does not personally produce much of the work attributed to him.

Hockney, 74, said that a sign displayed at his forthcoming show at London's Royal Academy reading, "All the works here were made by the artist himself, personally," was partly aimed at Hirst, reported Reuters.

Hirst, one of the most commercially successful artists of his generation, is best known for animals suspended in formaldehyde and spot canvases, featuring rows of different coloured spots.

He employs assistants to produce the spot works, and a recent New York Times article said Hirst had created just five of an estimated 1,400 spot canvases in existence.

Quick pearls of wisdom

Focus on gratitude: And do so deeply, he says. “Think of one to three things a day that you’re grateful for. It needs to be specific, too, don’t just say ‘air.’ Really think about it. If you’re grateful for, say, what your parents have done for you, that will motivate you to do more for the world.”

Know how to fight: Shetty married his wife, Radhi, three years ago (he met her in a meditation class before he went off and became a monk). He says they’ve had to learn to respect each other’s “fighting styles” – he’s a talk it-out-immediately person, while she needs space to think. “When you’re having an argument, remember, it’s not you against each other. It’s both of you against the problem. When you win, they lose. If you’re on a team you have to win together.”
