The Wanton Bishops to perform in Dubai



The Wanton Bishops are returning to the UAE for a club show. The Lebanese duo will perform on July 31 at The Address Dubai Marina and Lounge Bar as part of its live music night, The Other Side. The show marks the rockers' (vocalist and guitarist Nader Mansour and guitarist and backing vocalist Eddy Ghossein) return to the UAE after their blistering set ­supporting The Who during their Abu Dhabi Grand Prix race-day concert in ­November last year. Since forming in 2011 in Beirut, the duo hit the ground running and released their debut album Sleep With the Lights On the following year to ­critical acclaim. AC/DC’s Phil Rudd released on bail in New Zealand

AC/DC drummer Phil Rudd was released on bail on Monday after his weekend arrest in New Zealand on a charge of breaching the ­conditions of his home detention sentence for threatening to kill a former employee. Rudd will enter a plea when he appears in court on August 3. The musician was ­sentenced to eight months of home confinement on July 9 after pleading guilty to ­threatening to kill a man who used to work for him and possession of ­methamphetamine and ­marijuana. Rudd ­acknowledged in a court summary of facts that he had offered cash, vehicles and a house to an associate after asking him to have the victim "taken out". He also ­acknowledged that he had directly said to the victim he was going to kill him. – AP

Rocco, who played Moe Greene in The Godfather, dies at 79

The Emmy-winning character actor best known for playing the bespectacled Las Vegas mobster Moe Greene in The Godfather has died. Alex ­Rocco was 79. Details of his death were not ­immediately available. Rocco's career spanned five decades and he remained active up until his death. His most famous role came in 1972's The Godfather, where he played the humbled casino owner who meets his fate on a massage table. The tough-talking, Boston-born Rocco voiced the cigar-­smoking studio head of Itchy and Scratchy on The ­Simpsons. He won an Emmy in 1990 for the short-lived Jon Cryer sitcom The Famous Teddy Z. Rocco is survived by his wife, daughter, son and a grandson. – AP

Global films to be shown to Bengal’s slum kids

Eighteen international films for children will be shown in slums and remote areas in India’s West Bengal as part of the 15th International Children’s Film Festival in Kolkata, the state capital. The six-day event, which began on Friday, is being jointly organised by Unicef Kolkata and Cine Central Calcutta in association with state-run multiplex Nandan. It will be extended to urban slum areas and schools until September 30, organisers said on Sunday. Films on a range of topics from the United States, Canada, China, Croatia, Estonia, Egypt, France, Germany, Israel, India, Iran, Poland, Russia and The Netherlands will be screened free of cost. – IANS
