Looking for that perfect Eid gift? Heading home for the holidays? Look no further. Ladies and gentlemen, yakhis and oukhtis, I present Bubble Rider. Flashing eyes, glowing mohawk and swinging tale. What is not to love? Past Eid gift favorites, like mosque alarm clocks and electric incense burners, are affordable but break quickly. Bubble Rider is built of studier stuff. I have tested it daily for the last week and he's still riding full speed ahead. There are two types of Bubble Rider. One marches to the tune of Beverly Hills Cop, the other uses religious song chanted by children. Something for everyone. I bought Bubble Rider from Azam at Al Ravi Trading, opposite the large mosque behind Liwa Center on Hamadan Street. The market is busiest in late Ramadan, when workers come from Mussafah industrial district to stock up on Eid gifts for family. If you've ever wanted to experience an , the little shops behind Liwa Centre are as close as it gets and have the city's best mechanised toys. A hen that legs eggs. A chatty cat that repeats what you said. Blonde belly dancing dolls. Azam has it all. Bubble Rider sat on a shelf alongside Clever Little Elephant, Likable Rabbit and Lovely Parrot. If it's speed you're after, try Milk Cow or Desert Rider, a mechanised camel whose rider plays guitar. It's a more mature version of Bubble Rider. Forget the elusive Disney Elsa Doll, Bubble Rider is the toy for Eid 2014 and comes at a fraction of the price, starting at Dh40 and highly negotiable. It takes three AA batteries, included upon request. Test before you buy. azacharias@thenational.ae
