Today’s boy bands are not working hard enough, according to The Jacksons.

The Jacksons are not impressed with today's  boy bands.

Speaking yesterday from the Mawazine Festival in Morocco, Marlon and Jermaine Jackson said the current crop of pop acts rely more on image than hard work.

“They need to cut a rug,” Marlon said. “Basically that’s an American term to work harder.”

Marlon went on to state that current boy bands don’t have any heroes to musically aspire to.

“When the Jackson Five started out we wanted to be as good as James Brown of Jackie Wilson. In terms of performance that was what we were aiming at,” he said. “I don’t see that today. I don’t see these goals and that reflects, I think, in their performance.”

Jermaine blamed social media for lowering the bar when it comes to songwriting.

“I don’t see a focus on the music and putting on a great performance,” he said. “It seems to me now all you have to do is put a song online and through social media put in front of as many people as possible to make it popular. That doesn’t mean the song is any good, though.”

The UAE was also mentioned last night during The Jacksons performance at the OLM Souissi main-stage.

Before jumping into a medley including I Want You Back and ABC, Marlon introduced the songs by stating what each member was doing prior to The Jacksons reunion.

“And Jermaine was somewhere in Abu Dhabi and Dubai. What were you doing there brother?” he asked.

“I was praying,” Jermaine staid.

Look out for our interview with Jermaine Jackson on Arts and Life soon. Stay tuned for all the festival action from Mawazine on Scene and Heard.
