1 Plaid to be good
Straight from the runways is a proliferation of plaid, which is trickling down into homeware collections. This most classic of patterns is super-versatile and ties into the welcoming homeliness that underlies much of what we are seeing elsewhere this season.

2 As bold as brass
The march of metallics continues, but forget those smooth, shiny finishes, and opt instead for the warm, burnished tones of brass. This disc sculpture from Crate & Barrel stands 48 centimetres high and features an antique brass finish. It will create beautiful effects in your living space as light filters through the holes dotting its surface.

3 Taking flight
When it comes to patterns, nature is a major source of inspiration. Gentler variations feature feathers and butterfly wings, and this is a great place to try to bring some of those on-trend jewel tones in. We’re loving this peacock-inspired cushion cover by Myrte de Zeeuw.

4 Moody blues
Deep moody shades of indigo and blue, with midnight blue, that perennial favourite, are emerging as key players. This shade always looks best when paired with sumptuous fabrics, such as in the case of this Celinda wing chair from The One Fusion.

5 Ooh, saucy
Marble is huge this season, and is an easy and immediate way of adding a touch of sophistication to your home. This marble and neon light by The Design Shop by S*uce, which when lit spells out the phrase/hashtag “#inbedwithsauce”, will make a dramatic addition to a drab bedroom.

6 Keep things neutral
When it comes to neutrals, this season is all about whispers of silvery grey, which will create a beautiful, versatile backdrop to the rest of your design scheme. In the case of this table from Silsal Design House, almost effervescent shades of light grey are combined with another hot trend – 3-D geometrics that are almost digital in their effect.

7 Touchy feely
With fabrics, autumn 2015 is all about texture and tactility. Soft wools and chunky cable knits are particularly on-trend, but we’d recommend keeping them to smaller accessories such as this cushion, as you’ll probably want to switch them up again when spring sets in.

8 Tabling a motion
For a bold accent, try this brass coffee table from The One. It’s striking enough to make a statement, but isn’t overly ornate, so won’t overwhelm. Pair with a couple of hefty coffee-table books and you’re good to go.

9 Max out on minimal
If you’re embracing a darker, more jewel-toned palette for your accessories and walls, make sure to keep furniture simple and clean – this is one area where Scandi-inspired minimalism still reigns supreme. Furthermore, the statement chair will never, ever go out of style. This Cavett loveseat from Crate & Barrel captures the best of 1950s retro style and is made from solid walnut with a cantilevered seat.

10 Floral flourishes
Florals are back, but are dark and moody rather than chintzy and cheery. The Espri wallpaper is part of Swedish brand Boråstapeter’s anniversary collection, Jubileum, which was launched to mark the company’s 110th anniversary this year. It sees bold floral outlines set against an evocative charcoal-grey background.
