The Dance Scene: Tears, tights and tiffs in a 2011 Flashdance for the small screen

E! has been showing repeat episodes of the US reality show

The Dance Scene

, which features the best recipe for a good reality show in awhile: trash+drama+sweat+possible elimination=reluctant viewer addiction.

It's basically

Flashdance

in one 2011 half-hour (mean teacher, ragtag, angsty artists, sweatshirts worn showing one shoulder) with real people. But although I love a good jig, particularly modern street dance, and was glad to catch up with some of the graduates of the previous season of

So You Think You Can Dance

(a choreographer, a contestant), I think the show's main strength may be in its truly awesome catchphrases. After watching just two episodes (and endless E! promos), the show has yielded this brilliance:

"You gotta let it out. Break. Down. Your Walls."

"Don't (insert profanity) talk to me like that."

"So many giggles. Very little time."

"My cousin committed suicide. I really want to put my heart and soul in

this piece."

"They live to dance. Too bad life isn't choreographed."

"Dance is a fight. It's about passion."
