Teslas Model S P90D on display at Deals on Wheels in Dubai

Among the rows of glimmering supercars at Deals on Wheels in Dubai, it would be easy to miss two of the rarest cars in the Emirates that are in stock at its Sheikh Zayed Road showroom.

Peer past Ferraris, Lamborghinis and Bentleys, and you will spy two Teslas. Both are the hallowed Ludicrous edition of the Californian carmaker’s Model S P90D – the subtle trick to differentiating these from the regular version is that the P90D badge on the back is underlined.

While Tesla has no official presence in the UAE, which has so far restricted the numbers of its cars on the roads here, this pair – one red, the other white – are even more special than factory-fresh examples. They are part of a batch of five imported Ludicrous models, but the plain black factory-fitted interiors were deemed too dull and not up to the luxurious standard expected in the Middle East.

The result sees sumptuous lashings of leather cosseting the interiors, with a neat UAE flag stitched on to the dash at a cost of Dh595,000. Nothing has been changed under the bonnet, though, so they should still hit 100kph from standstill in 2.8 seconds – at such neck-snappingly fast pace, you will be glad of a bit of extra cushioning.
