Tarek Yamani bringing New York cool to The Fridge



Tarek Yamani kicks off the latest round of live shows from The Fridge. Here is what you need to know about the Lebanese jazz pianist before his Dubai gig tonight.

The Artist

Born and raised in Beirut in 1980, Yamani relocated to New York in 2011. His biggest gig was in April last year when Yamani performed in the inaugural International Jazz Day at the UN headquarters in NYC, alongside luminaries Wayne Shorter, Richard Bona, Zakir Hussein and Vinnie Colaiuta, Throughout his career, Tarek performed with various groups around the Middle East, the Gulf, North Africa, Europe and the USA and conducted various jazz workshops incluiding one at the 2010 Palermo Jazz Festival in Italy.

The Performance

"Opening season 14 of The Fridge Concert Series, I will play a versatile repertoire of Jazz Standards, Brazilian songs, and original compositions based in Arabic rhythms and modes such as the Dabke, Sama'i & Muwashah," he said. "The concert will also pay tribute to great composers such as Sayed Darwish, John Coltrane and Antonio Carlos Jobim." Joining Yamani tonight is local jazz artist Elie Afif on double bass.
