Sunidhi Chauhan to perform in Abu Dhabi in August

Here is part of our summer guide to some of the hottest events in the UAE.

The Bollywood songstress Sunidhi Chauhan will take the stage for her debut solo performance in the capital. The 30-year-old Indian Idol judge has lent her voice as a playback singer for Hindi, Tamil, Bengali, Malayalam and Nepali films and earned multiple awards in her 18-year career, including the Dada Saheb Phalke Award this year – one of India's highest awards in cinema.

You have performed in Dubai several times. What keeps bringing you back to the UAE?

I’ve received so much love from the people and it is always a pleasure to sing for the crowds there. This time I’ll be in Abu Dhabi. So that is different.

What playlist can the audience expect?

All my popular numbers are on it. I will add some that are close to my heart such as Te Amo and Saazish hai Boondon Ki. I often treat a few songs differently, do a few unplugged versions and ask the people in the audience to sing along.

You have not received any formal training. Do you think professional training gives one an edge over the competition?

Training is always good although I did not have a guru. The point is to keep learning in any way possible.

Is there any actress you think your voice is best suited to?

It is difficult to pick one. But I have been told my voice suits Urmila Matondkar, Kajol, Kareena Kapoor and Katrina Kaif.

• Sunidhi Chauhan will perform at 8pm on August 15 at Emirates Palace. Tickets on www.ticketmaster.ae
