Filming of Star Wars: Episode VIII is officially underway and Hollywood stars Benicio del Toro and Laura Dern have been added to the cast. Disney announced that principal photography started at London's Pinewood Studios on Monday. Written and directed by Rian Johnson, the sequel will continue the story from J J Abrams' box-office smash Episode VII – The Force Awakens, which was partly filmed in Abu Dhabi. There is no word yet on whether the new film, set for release in December next year, will return to the UAE for filming. Joining returning cast members – including Daisy Ridley (Rey), John Boyega (Finn) and Adam Driver (Kylo Ren) – are Oscar-winner del Toro, the Oscar-nominated Dern and newcomer Kelly Marie Tran. The announcement was accompanied by a brief video that showed location filming picking up where The Force Awakens left off, with Johnson directing Mark Hamill (Luke Skywalker) on a remote island off the coast of Ireland. – AP

Rapper Kanye West, who says he is US$53million (Dh194m) in debt, has asked Facebook chief executive Mark Zuckerberg to invest $1 billion in his "ideas". West asked his Twitter followers to lobby Zuckerberg to support him. "World, please tweet, FaceTime, Facebook, Instagram, whatever you gotta do to get Mark to support me," he wrote. The rapper also asked Alphabet Inc chief executive Larry Page to help him with his financial problems. Please pray we overcome ... This is my true heart." West, who is married to reality-TV star Kim Kardashian, has reportedly been putting tens of millions of dollars into his fashion label. – Reuters
Daniel Craig ‘quits Bond for TV role’
Speculation is mounting that Daniel Craig, who has portrayed suave British secret agent James Bond role for nearly a decade, has quit the role after he signed up for a new American television series called Purity. It is an adaptation of Jonathan Franzen's novel, which is a dark comedy about an organisation that collects and trades in world secrets. If the series is a hit, the actor might not have time for that and a 007 movie, although the producers of the Bond franchise say they still hope to have him back for at least one more film. Last year, when latest Bond movie Spectre was released, Craig heavily hinted that he has had enough of playing the spy. However, he later said that he might not be able to leave as his contract requires another film. – The National staff

Yemen's Bahais and the charges they often face
The Baha'i faith was made known in Yemen in the 19th century, first introduced by an Iranian man named Ali Muhammad Al Shirazi, considered the Herald of the Baha'i faith in 1844.
The Baha'i faith has had a growing number of followers in recent years despite persecution in Yemen and Iran.
Today, some 2,000 Baha'is reside in Yemen, according to Insaf.
"The 24 defendants represented by the House of Justice, which has intelligence outfits from the uS and the UK working to carry out an espionage scheme in Yemen under the guise of religion.. aimed to impant and found the Bahai sect on Yemeni soil by bringing foreign Bahais from abroad and homing them in Yemen," the charge sheet said.
Baha'Ullah, the founder of the Bahai faith, was exiled by the Ottoman Empire in 1868 from Iran to what is now Israel. Now, the Bahai faith's highest governing body, known as the Universal House of Justice, is based in the Israeli city of Haifa, which the Bahais turn towards during prayer.
The Houthis cite this as collective "evidence" of Bahai "links" to Israel - which the Houthis consider their enemy.
Uefa Nations League: How it Works
The Uefa Nations League, introduced last year, has reached its final stage, to be played over five days in northern Portugal. The format of its closing tournament is compact, spread over two semi-finals, with the first, Portugal versus Switzerland in Porto on Wednesday evening, and the second, England against the Netherlands, in Guimaraes, on Thursday.
The winners of each semi will then meet at Porto’s Dragao stadium on Sunday, with the losing semi-finalists contesting a third-place play-off in Guimaraes earlier that day.
Qualifying for the final stage was via League A of the inaugural Nations League, in which the top 12 European countries according to Uefa's co-efficient seeding system were divided into four groups, the teams playing each other twice between September and November. Portugal, who finished above Italy and Poland, successfully bid to host the finals.
