Qais Sedki launched his second book Gold Ring 2 with mixed success. The Emirati graphic novelist attempted to break The Guinness Book of Records for the most books signed by one author in one session. The attempt also marked World Arabic Day. While Sedki's tally of 451 officially signed novels is below the record of 1,951, it was strong enough to achieve a new sales record for Dubai's Kinokuniya Book Store. Sedki dedicated his first autographed copy of Gold Ring 2 to His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai. "The launch event of Gold Ring 2 has been a great success and I'm so pleased that we've set a new sales record for Kinokuniya Bookstore," he said. "I would like to thank all the fans for their support and contribution to this result. The world record was always going to be an ambitious target, but I think our attempt has really helped encourage the Dubai community to want to read the book." Golden Ring 2 is the anticipated follow-up to the first instalment of the comic series fusing Japanese manga illustration with classical Arabic content. To find out more about Qais Sedki and his work, catch him at the Emirates Airlines Festival of Literature on Thursday, 6pm at the InterContinental Dubai Festival City.
