Following remix work for Disclosure, and producing Solo 45 anthem Feed Em to Lions, UK grime stalwart Preditah may be the hottest name on the bill for Something Big's sizzling Indoor Festival.
The eclectic shindig of sound will also welcome internationals Lenzman, Commodo and Darko behind the decks at Story Rooftop Lounge on Friday (July 22) – so expect a riotous, border-bouncing, bass-centric mix of UK garage, grime, drum n’ bass, reggae, hip-hop and more.
Ahead of the eight-hour marathon of madness, we threw some questions at the 27-year-old DJ otherwise known as Nathan Gerald.
Labels are for canned foods – but how would you describe your music?
Ha, good one! My music is a mixture of various genre and styles intwined into one. I have a wide range of musical tastes and each composition I create touches on those inspirations.
If you are the Preditah, what is your pray?
My pray, without sounding like the biggest cheeseball, is to become a better Preditah.
The best way to prepare for your Dubai set, would be...?
Set the heating on in my house to maximum and do a practice set on my decks.
How would you describe your relationship with Skepta, JME and the rest of the Boy Better Know collective?
My relationship with the Boy Better Know lads is healthy. We’re all busy and we’re all working hard to be better versions of ourselves, so every time we meet up it’s inspirational talks, but and it’s also laughs and jokes.
What tune is consistently killing it for you in 2016?
That’s a hard one but, although its my track, Feed Em To The Lions is still a huge track out there in the clubs a year after its release.
If you could be alive for one night at any time, and in any place, where would it be?
Let me answer that question when I come back from Dubai? Ha!
What’s been your greatest night or achievement in the here and now?
One of my greatest nights was Tropical at Manchester’s Warehouse Project last year, and my biggest achievement was putting on my first Circles Tour last year, and ending the tour with a sold out show in my hometown Birmingham.
Of all the folk you’ve met or worked with, who left the greatest impression, and why?
Craig David, because it was one of my favourite studio sessions ever. He was very humble and that left a good impression.
Anything else to tell our readers?
Dream big and have no limits. Make long term plans and stick them out. Don’t follow the crowd, be a leader. Do music for the love of it, not for the potential awards that may never come from it.
Something Big's Indoor Festival takes place on Friday July 22, from 5pm, at Story Rooftop Lounge, Holiday Inn Express, Knowledge Village, Dubai. Advance tickets Dh100 from platinumlist.ae.
