In March last year Meitha Al Mazrooei and Lujain Abulfaraj were part of the team that launched WTD magazine, a niche publication dedicated to architecture and design.
This year, the pair wanted to branch out so they enrolled on the Campus Art Dubai curators’ course as a way to move the magazine towards being a platform for discussion in the region.
During the course they formulated and honed an idea for a competition to design a temporary and sustainable public structure suited to three locations around Dubai. “There is an element of personal agenda in the project,” explains Al Mazrooei. “I always saw potential in public space and installations and I think it is missing here in Dubai. The CAD curator course was a good platform to push the idea further.”
Currently pitching to local architecture firms, the competition would work in three phases beginning with a workshop where the participants would be tutored, a development stage and a final judging process. All entries would then be documented in the magazine.
