Pearl Jam performs Frozen song, Let It Go, to roaring success

It has been the inescapable song of the year, the much-loved and Academy Award-winning ballad Let It Go from Disney's Frozen. But the veteran rock band Pearl Jam still surprised and delighted their audience – and, later, the internet, where the evidence has gone viral – when they meandered into the tune from one of their most-loved songs, Daughter, during an encore at a show in Milan. The clip has gone on to earn almost 1.4 million hits and counting since a fan posted the 30-second snippet to YouTube on Saturday. – The National staff

KBC 8 to start in August, reveals Big B

The "new face" of Kaun Banega Crorepati (KBC), an Indian version of Who Wants to Be a Millionaire?, will go on air in August, according to the Bollywood megastar Amitabh Bachchan, the host of the popular game show. The 71-year-old took to his Facebook page to make the announcement on Monday night. "Yeh hai KBC ka naya aakaar ... the new face of KBC starting in August ... now been on since 2000, with a break in between and one season done by Shah Rukh Khan," he posted. Big B, despite his stardom, manages to establish a warm and strong connection with the myriad contestants who come from different nooks and corners of the country to try their luck to become a "crorepati". The actor changed the face of Indian television when he began hosting KBC in 2000. The show screens on Sony Entertainment Television. – IANS

American Idol bringing back same judging panel

Fox says it's bringing back the same trio of American Idol judges for the show's 14th season, despite coming off a season with the lowest-rated finale ever. The network announced Monday that Jennifer Lopez, Keith Urban and Harry Connick Jr will be judging singers again in 2015, while Ryan Seacrest will remain the host. The finale was part of a continuing ratings slide for the once-dominant TV series. Fox has shaken up the judges' panel in past years to try to boost viewership but is deciding to stay the course this time. The network is taking the show's decline into account in scheduling, saying it will broadcast fewer hours next season, and in many weeks, there will be just one episode instead of two. – Associated Press

Frozen star expecting second child

Kristen Bell and her husband, the actor/writer/director Dax Shepard, told Entertainment Tonight that they're expecting their second child. "The whole family is beyond excited," a representative told the US show. The couple already have a 15-month-old daughter, Lincoln. Unlike some celebrities, they have tried to keep her out of the public eye. Unwanted paparazzi attention prompted Bell to launch a campaign calling on celebrity magazines and websites to stop publishing unauthorised pictures of stars' children. – The National staff

From Europe to the Middle East, economic success brings wealth - and lifestyle diseases

A rise in obesity figures and the need for more public spending is a familiar trend in the developing world as western lifestyles are adopted.

One in five deaths around the world is now caused by bad diet, with obesity the fastest growing global risk. A high body mass index is also the top cause of metabolic diseases relating to death and disability in Kuwait,  Qatar and Oman – and second on the list in Bahrain.

In Britain, heart disease, lung cancer and Alzheimer’s remain among the leading causes of death, and people there are spending more time suffering from health problems.

The UK is expected to spend $421.4 billion on healthcare by 2040, up from $239.3 billion in 2014.

And development assistance for health is talking about the financial aid given to governments to support social, environmental development of developing countries.
