Why pop art was not just a western movement
It is widely regarded as the most significant art movement of the last century. Pop art uses well-known imagery from everyday life and the mass media to reflect on the world. Now a new exhibition in London brings together 250 works by 110 artists from the US to China and the former Soviet bloc, showing that it was not simply a western movement. Explore the sound of Emirati artist's paper works
In his first solo exhibition following his participation in the 55th Venice Biennale, Mohammed Kazem examines themes of subjectivity and experience. At the heart of the exhibition in Dubai are 24 works on paper that render Indonesian masks, hard-carved bowls and African figurines as a series of bumps and reliefs scratched into paper. Fantastic realism in the style of the Old Masters
Arik Brauer is one of the main players of the Vienna School of Fantastic Realism, which after the Second World War ­defined post-war modernism. With his bizarre and fantastical shapes in the style of the Old Masters, Brauer's work captures the imagination. This exhibition in Austria brings together 100 paintings, graphic works and sculptures and marks the artist's 85th birthday, which falls in January.
