A surprising inspiration for the Lebanese-born New Yorker, biking provided many of the motifs for Reem Acra’s collection, which was drawn from the artist Aaron Young’s series of motorcycle works.
This didn’t mean biker jackets and studded leather of course – this is Acra we’re talking about, and elegance is an ever-present trait – but the opening pieces bore laser-cut patterns based on motorbike treads and items such as silk bomber jackets gave the collection an urban feel.
There were leather pieces – an emerald-green laser-cut shell top, tight pencil skirts, a tailored leather jackets with dramatic pleating on the collar and hems – but it was the silks and lace that really worked for Acra. Ivory silk crepe wide-legged pyjama pants were fabulous, and the endless invention of her eveningwear offered everything from the simplest ivory Grecian bias-cut column to the frothiest layered tulle fairytale gown in nude, fuchsia and gold.
