Miss Universe 2015 Pia Wurtzbach hopes that the newly elected Philippine president Rodrigo Duterte will not disappoint the country.
“I’m just a beauty queen — I won’t get anything out of this,” she posted on social media. “But to our next president, we’ve put our trust in you. Please don’t fail us.”
Duterte, the tough-talking mayor of the southern city of Davao, has won the presidential election by a landslide after securing about 16 million votes, or almost double the number received by his closest rival, Mar Roxas.
In another Instagram post, Wurtzbach wrote: “Mabuhay, countrymen. Let us keep praying and let us trust our new leaders. Like you, I was sleepless and anxious while waiting for the results.”
Wurtzbach is currently based in New York City, fulfilling her duties with the Miss Universe Organisation. Last month, she flew back to Manila to crown her successor at the Binibining Pilipinas (Miss Philippines) pageant.
